In an earlier article, I gave Moodle some grief for its boxy feel and less than juicy looks. Like all good things though, you get out of Moodle what you put into it.
A couple of semesters ago I decided I had had enough of the endless menu items, links and boxes and wanted to amalgamate some of the core features of my courses and embed them in sleek flash menus. It was actually a lot easier than I had anticipated, and it really improved the look of the site.
The biggest secret to creating a better looking, less cluttered Moodle course is to plan it all out in advance, place the content in a topic, link that content to Flash menus, and then hide the topic from view. It's easier to show this than to explain it.
If you're not Flash savvy just yet, there are tons of free tutorials online. If you're a little more ambitious, check out lynda.com, where you can get up to speed on Flash in record time.
Rude comments will be edited to make you look goofy.
